[LIAT] Pilots move

[LIAT] Pilots move
24 November 2018

Fed up with what they term biased treatment and the widening rift between Antigua and Barbados, locally-based LIAT pilots have joined the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW).

Traditionally, LIAT pilots have been represented by the Leeward Island Airline Pilots Association (LIALPA) which negotiates on their behalf. It is made up of 116 pilots and 38 are based here.

And while the idea was mooted before, it is the first time since LIALPA was formed in the 1970s that they have joined a trade union.

Among the issues cited are lack of representation at meetings where important decisions are made, termination without a fair hearing, the denial of legal or industrial representation at meetings and health and security concerns.
