Caribbean Airlines flight BW 526 from Guyana to New York diverted to Nassau, Bahamas on Saturday night due to a mechanical issue with one of its engines.

The flight landed safely around 10:51pm with all 134 passengers and 7 crew on board deplaned normally.

CAL says the aircraft itself has been withdrawn from service and all appropriate inspections and procedures are in progress to return it to service in good time.

Caribbean Airlines confirms that flight BW 526 bound for John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York from Guyana, diverted to Nassau, Bahamas due to a mechanical issue with one of its engines.

There were 134 passengers and 7 crew on board. The flight landed safely at 10.51 p.m. and was met by airport services. The aircraft taxied to a gate where customers and crew deplaned normally.

According to a media released issued this morning just after 12 midnight, Caribbean Airlines assures all stakeholders that safety is their number one priority and thanks its valued customers for their continued support and understanding.

A New York-bound Caribbean Airlines flight from Guyana diverted to The Bahamas Saturday night.

The carrier on Sunday confirmed that flight BW 526, with 134 passengers and 7 crew on board, diverted to The Bahamas due to a mechanical issue with one of its engines.

Caribbean Airlines says the aircraft has been withdrawn from service and all appropriate inspections and procedures are in progress to return it to service in good time.

Caribbean Airlines says the flight landed safely at 10.51 p.m. and was met by airport services.

According to the airline, the aircraft taxied to a gate where customers and crew deplaned normally.

The CAL flight departed Guyana’s Cheddi Jagan International Airport at 5:15 p.m. Saturday and was due to arrive at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport at 10:25 p.m.

“Caribbean Airlines assures all stakeholders that safety is our number one priority and thanks its valued customers for their continued support and understanding,” the Trinidad-headquartered airline said.

The CAL Boeing 737 plane bears the registration marking 9Y-BGI.

Incident: Caribbean B738 near Nassau on Nov 9th 2019, engine shut down in flight

A Caribbean Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration 9Y-BGI performing flight BW-526 from Georgetown (Guyana) to New York JFK,NY (USA) with 134 passengers and 7 crew, was enroute at FL380 about 330nm northnortheast of Nassau (Bahamas) when the crew needed to shut one of the engines (CFM56) down. The aircraft drifted down to FL200 and diverted to Nassau for a safe landing about 70 minutes later.

The airline reported a mechanical issue with one of the engines prompted the diversion to Nassau.
