Cape Air adding daily PR-Nevis service
By CB Online Staff

Cape Air is launching daily service between Puerto Rico and Nevis in November.

The Massachusetts-based carrier will run one daily flight between Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport (SJU) and Vance W. Amory International Airport (NEV) starting Nov. 11. The 90-minute flights on the Cessna 402c will depart San Juan at 4:21 p.m. and leave Nevis at 10 a.m. An enhanced schedule foe the tourism high season, which will include a second flight four days a week, will begin on Dec. 22.

“This is our 14th year of providing inter-island service in the Caribbean and all of us at Cape Air are excited about our newest destination,” said Cape Air CEO Dan Wolf, the founder of the airline.

Cape Air’s new Puerto Rico-Nevis service fills a gap left by American Eagle’s dropping of the route last month.

“We have ensured that our Nevis flight schedule allows for easy connections with major carriers arriving in San Juan and our convenient ticket and baggage agreements with almost all of the major carriers mean you can book your entire trip on one itinerary and check your bags thru to your final destination,” Wolf said.

Cape Air already flies from SJU to a range of other destinations in the Caribbean including Mayagüez, Vieques, St. Thomas, St. Croix, Tortola and Anguilla.

Enthusiasm for the start of the San Juan to Nevis service is shared by representatives from the island’s tourism and hospitality sectors.

“On behalf of the Nevis Tourism Authority and by extension, Destination Nevis, I warmly welcome Cape Air to Nevis,” said John W. Hanley, CEO of the Nevis Tourism Authority. “The introduction of its service between Nevis and Puerto Rico will make it more convenient and cost effective for our valuable guests to make same-day connections to major North American gateways.”

“We are excited about the arrival of Cape Air to the unspoiled island of Nevis and proud to partner with a carrier with a proven track record in the US and the Caribbean,” said Andrew Humphries, regional vice president & general manager of the Four Seasons Resort Nevis. “Cape Air’s added schedule will provide travelers with greater flexibility, flight frequency, and ease of travel, while opening up a new gateway to visitors from the Midwest and West Coast.”

Cape Air’s partnerships with JetBlue and Continental Airlines have allowed for widespread distribution, increasing access to Nevis as a tourism destination. Customers can book flights to Nevis on the website of San Juan’s largest airline, JetBlue Airways. Cape Air’s codeshare with Continental Airlines, which starts in March of 2012, will put Nevis on Continental’s route map. In addition, Cape Air has for more than a decade interlined with American, Continental, Delta, US Airways and United.

With a fleet of two ATR-42s and sixty-two Cessna 402s, Cape Air flies more than 600,000 passengers annually with up to 600 non-stop flights per day and 130,000 flight operations each year. Cape Air serves 36 destinations in its 6 regions which represent both U.S. domestic and international markets.
