Eleven passengers of a Pineapple Air flight returning from North Eleuthera this morning escaped without injury after the aircraft’s landing gear failed, disabling it on airport’s the runway.

Jan Knowles, Nassau Airport Development company’s Vice-President of Marketing & Communications, said the incident took place at 9.27 am.

“At approximately 9:27 am, a Pineapple Air flight from North Eleuthera, The Bahamas landed at Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) experiencing issues with its landing gear. The aircraft became disabled on the runway causing a disruption to aircraft operations.”

The statement continued: “Eleven persons were on board the Embraer 110 aircraft. There were no injuries reported. All passengers onboard the aircraft were safely transported to the terminal.

“The aircraft has been removed from the runway and aircraft operations have returned to normal. The airport terminal facilities remained open to process passengers throughout the incident.”

The Air Accident Department also confirmed it is actively investigating the incident involving the Pineapple Air craft with registration C6-KMC. The department confirmed the incident occurred on runway 14 at LPIA in a statement, noting the aircraft suffered damages.

The airport has been operating with a single runway since the $20 million runway rehabilitation project began back in June.

The Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) runway rehabilitation project is reportedly ‘on schedule’ and expected to be completed next month, according to the Nassau Airport Development (NAD) company.
