UPDATE [2:51 pm]:

The Ministry of Tourism and International Transport provided the following press release on the incident at GAIA.

At 06:48 this morning Air Traffic Control (ATC) reported that NASA 426 a four engine P3 aircraft departed Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) at 6.18 am on its way to the Ascension Islands and at 40 miles SE reported a full emergency due to fire in one of the engines which it had shut down. The pilot indicated that the plane would dump fuel to lose weight with Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) at GAIA 07:15 am.

It was decided the aircraft will hold for 2 hours as it had 11hrs. 45mins of fuel on board and the new ETA was 09:00am.

There were 20 persons on board and the aircraft was undertaking operations on behalf of NASA.

The various emergency response services were called out .

At 8.31am NASA 426 landed safely.

After the aircraft landed and was parked at position #22, a Runway Inspection was conducted between 08:38am - 08:45am and the runway was declared found fit for operation.

The Emergency Stand-down was given at 08:42am by the Airport Fire Service.

The Airport Ambulance, Fire Service and Police were decommissioned.

An officer from DEM along with the GAIA Inc. Chief Operating Officer visited the aircraft and spoke to the crew and other personnel.

The Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) remained operational during the incident and remains fully opened.
