Wreckage of the ill-fated Fly Montserrat 107 aircraft, which crashed almost one month ago at the VC Bird International Airport.

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Managing Director of Fly Montserrat Nigel Harris has said every effort will be made to remove the wreckage of the ill-fated flight 107 aircraft, which crashed nearly a month ago at VC Bird International Airport.

Weeks after the deadly crash that killed the pilot and two passengers, the wreckage remains at the crash site within the aerodrome at the airport.

Harris told OBSERVER Media the authorities at the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA), turned over the ruins of the plane to the company only two days ago.

He said the final pieces of the aircraft would be placed in a container within the next few days, where they will be stored for six to 12 months before being destroyed.

“The difficulty at this time is finding a container which can be properly secure because the wreckage is still considered as evidence,” Harris said.

He added, “We are hoping to locate a container within a day or two to clean up the site.”

Over the weekend, Director of Airport Operations Edward Gilkes said both the airport and the ECCAA had already completed what they needed to do with the site and the clean-up was now left to the owners of the plane.

Gilkes also indicated that no deadline has been set for the doomed aircraft to be removed.
