Aerolineas Argentinas will start flying to Cuba and other Caribbean destinations
10 / 08 / 2014

Starting next January Aerolíneas Argentinas (AA) will expand its destinations to include Caribbean countries among which are Cuba, Mexico and Dominican Republic. Mariano Recalde, head of the airline, explained that these new routes will mean big profits.

The Buenos Aires-Havana service will initiate on Sunday January 4 2015, that month will also open routes to Cancun, Mexico and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, all with a stopover in Caracas, Venezuela. To cover those destinations, AA will use a Boeing 737-800 for 170 passengers.

"We decided to fly to Havana and Punta Cana because until now these destinations are marketed by foreign airlines and involves business between 15 and 18 million per month," said Recalde. "The idea is not more Argentines traveling to Caribbean, but the airline taking part of that business which is extremely attractive from a commercial point of view," he said.

In the case of Cuba, for example, Argentina is the main source of tourists from the Southern Cone. In 2012, 94 000 697 Argentines traveled to the island, while in 2013 they did 90 thousand 84 and from January to August this year the amount is 50 000 586.

With this expansion of air operations will increase 15 percent and 16 percent of seats in 2015, asserted Recalde and Fabian Lombardo, commercial manager of the company. Similarly, in line with the new expansion plan, the outputs to Brazil and Uruguay will increase.
