[BlueSky] Cayman based Caribbean airline being developed
March 17, 2015

A new Caribbean airline based in the Cayman Islands is being developed. According to the Caribbean Journal, BlueSky Airlines plans to service the Caribbean basin, from Nassau, Bahamas to Catagena, Colombia.

“According to a recent statement from the company, its Chairman and Acting CEO is Kenny Rankin, who’s joined by a leadership team that includes COO Peter Schmid, Chief Commercial Officer Mark Ellinger, Chief Pilot and Head of Training Ian Cheese and director of marketing Tara Ebanks, among others. Rankin is the owner of the Paramount Group, a major conglomerate in the Cayman Islands,” the report said.

Their mission is “connecting the Caribbean and Latin America in a more convenient and simple way,” according to the statement.

Subject to government approval, the company’s plan is to operate direct flights from Grand Cayman to Santo Domingo, Montego Bay, Panama City, Cartagena, Cancun and Nassau. From those locations, the carrier will then offer “onward flights to Tortola, Bogota and San Jose.”

BlueSky’s is slated to include Bombardier Dash-8 Q400 NextGen turboprop aircraft. The company will begin with two aircraft. The Q400 NextGen has a typical seating capacity of 71 seats, with seven business class and 64 economy.

The company has said it expects to launch operations later in the middle of this year.
