[Cayman, BlueSky] Pledge for lower fares and faster flights

Lower fares and faster flights; that’s the pledge of Cayman’s newest airline. The airline hopes to slash the cost of a ticket by up to 15 per cent, compared to competition.

BlueSky hopes to connect to new destinations, including the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Colombia.

“I think it’s very important first to state what type of aircraft we are operating,” said Mark Ellinger, who is the chief commercial officer for BlueSky

“We are operating the Bombardier Q-400, which has the lowest seat cost in the 50 to 100 seat aircraft segment.”

Mr. Ellinger adds, “That allows us to charge less than the competition. The fares out there right now are very high within the Caribbean and Latin America and we think we can bring down the travel time, but also the cost of flying.”

BlueSky says it hopes to launch its first flights later this year.
