Cayman’s latest airline says the key to its success is not just people heading off island, but those coming to visit. BlueSky has revealed a list of its planned destinations, which includes Colombia and the Dominican Republic. But it’s hoping the new routes will bring more visitors to Cayman.

“We actually think there’s going to be more traffic and actually there has to be more traffic this way,” said Chief Commercial Officer Mark Ellinger.

“We can’t depend solely on the Cayman market so we are focusing on large markets. Colombia has 45 million. The Dominican Republic (has) 10 million people.”

Mr. Ellinger added: “So these large markets with millions and millions of potential customers and many of them want to come here. They are looking for new destinations.”

BlueSky is a locally-based airline that is awaiting regulatory approval. There’s no word yet on the date of its maiden flight, but BlueSky hopes to take off before the year is out.
