Boomerang Air Charter adds Bahamas service

Boomerang Air Charter has added the Bahamas to its list of travel destinations.

The St. Augustine charter service, which offers executive and personal air travel from local airports for up to five passengers, received its international license from the Federal Aviation Administration a few weeks ago, said aviation director Elliot Mintzer.

“Nobody is serving this market as a charter service,” he said. “There are people who live here but own businesses in the Bahamas. People also own vacation property there.”

Minzer said a New Smyrna Beach air service that previously made stops in St. Augustine bound for the Bahamas had a 99 percent load factor. That shows there’s demand in North Florida for direct service to the Bahamas, he said.

In June, Silver Airways Corp. began weekly scheduled service between Jacksonville International Airport and Marsh Harbour in the Bahamas.

“It shows there’s an uptick in this market. As opposed to airlines pulling out of the Bahamas service, they’re coming in,” Minzer said.
