Curaçaon court orders two Aruba Airlines directors suspended
14 February, 2016

A judge on the southern Caribbean island of Aruba has appointed Hubert Zievinger as the interim managing director of Aruba Airlines (AG, Aruba) in a bid to restore longterm stability to the carrier.

According to the Curaçao Chronicle, Zievinger, who is the airline's Director of Ground Operations, temporarily replaces the airline's main shareholders, Onno de Swart and Esteban Valles, who were suspended from their respective posts of Managing Director and CEO.

An ongoing dispute between de Swart and Valles about the state of the airline's financial affairs lead to management filing an urgent court application on Friday, February 10, to help settle the impasse which has negatively affected the airline's staff as well as operations.

Following the court's ruling, management reiterated its faith in Aruba Airlines' future prospects while reassuring the public that financial obligations, such as USD6.3 million in aircraft insurance premiums, would be paid on time.

The Aruban carrier currently operates four A320-200s on scheduled passenger flights from Aruba to Curacao, Maracaibo, Miami Int'l, Panamá City Tocumen Int'l, Santo Domingo Las Américas, and Valencia Arturo Michelena Int'l.
