[Jamaica, JATCA] Aviation bodies agree to mediation
2011-08-05

KINGSTON -- The Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority and the Jamaica Air Traffic Controllers' Association have agreed to undergo mediation as they try to resolve their dispute.

The parties have been at loggerheads over alleged overtime payments to air traffic controllers more than two years ago.

The JCAA challenged overtime claims made by air traffic controllers and have refused to make the payments.

However, the association claimed the JCAA is dragging out the issue to frustrate air traffic controllers despite a directive, from the finance ministry, to drop the challenge.

Transport Minister Mike Henry said he met with the parties yesterday afternoon and they agreed to try mediation in resolving the matter.

In May, air traffic controllers took strike action, protesting the non-payment, only returning to work when the Government intervened.
