Two hundred pilots Airberlin call in sick
  • - flight to Curaçao continued but with delay

The German airline Airberlin, which filed for bankruptcy last month, has canceled around 70 flights after 200 pilots reported to be ill.

It was mainly flights from Berlin, Düsseldorf, Munich, and Hamburg. According to the arrival data of the Hato airport, the flight to Curaçao was scheduled for this afternoon, only with a delay of about one and a half hours. In a memo, the board says that the survival of the company is at risk due to sick leave. Airberlin is looking for investors.

Last year, the company suffered a loss of 780 million euros. It is feared that the actions of pilots deter investors, leaving many jobs to disappear, and the company’s existence at risk. The German cabin crew union said that no strike action was organized by the Federation.

Air Berlin announced earlier this week that all routes to and from the Caribbean, including the connection between Düsseldorf and Curacao, will stop as of September 25.
