Continue the good work!

Those were the sentiments Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Richard Sealy, shared recently with the Barbados Air Traffic Control Association (BATCA) at its 40th anniversary awards and dinner at the Hilton Barbados Resort.

In saluting the work of the members of the association, Mr. Sealy stated that Barbados owed them “an incredible debt of gratitude” for their contribution to national development over the last 40 years.

He underscored the integral role Civil Aviation played in the development of the nation, noting that civil aviation was not “merely a subsidiary of tourism” but could help expand the economy.

However, the Tourism and International Transport Minister acknowledged that there was still “a ways to go” in the development of BATCA, and pointed out that its future resided in its “ability to continue to nurture a common interest among its members; to maintain a positive network for professionals to share information; and to liaise with the Civil Aviation Department personnel and external agencies to promote best practices in the air traffic systems”.

Among its many accomplishments over the past 40 years, BATCA has been able to secure improved physical working conditions for its members; as well as house-to-house transportation for persons working each shift.
