[Barbados] Air traffic staff sick-out
24 October 2015

AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS fed up with overdue environmental problems might grind operations to a standstill at the Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA).

This was the position held by director of industrial relations and deputy general secretary of the Barbados Workers Union (BWU), Dwaine Paul, following reports of sickout action at the airport yesterday.

“At this point in time we have a situation where again people are fatigued, people are tired, all sorts of ailments coming that the management is aware of and they are off the job and I sympathise with them” said Paul.

The action, which began Thursday night, was as a result of environmental conditions that were not conducive for the air traffic controllers.
