[Thomas Cook] Barbados welcomes another inaugural UK flight at GAIA
18 December 2017

Barbados has welcomed yet another inaugural flight from the United Kingdom at the Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA).

The island welcomed Virgin Atlantic’s flight VS 131 from London Heathrow last week Tuesday and last Saturday the Thomas Cook MT 2610 landed from London Gatwick. That was the first of weekly trips it will be making to Barbados until March of next year.

Speaking during a reception to welcome crew members from Thomas Cook Airlines on Saturday, Chairman of the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), Alvin Jemmott, stressed that the inaugural flight proved that Barbados continues to be an attractive destination for persons living in the UK: “By the time we get to the end of the year we would have actually maintained our pace in that market and that is a good thing for Barbados as we continue to improve our tourism arrivals here in Barbados. It is opportunities like this that help us to do that."

Head of Sales with Thomas Cook Airlines, Sharon Confue, noted that she is happy with the decision to have the flight to the island and stressed tha the route is selling very well:"For us, it's a major, major step... We had a full flight and the route is selling really, really well."

The arrival of Thomas Cook MT 2610 was doubly exciting, as it was also the final flight for Captain Maurice Flemmings, who wanted Barbados to be his last destination outside of the UK before retirement. The Captain who has been flying to Barbados for over 15 years was presented with a range of gifts to celebrate the occasion.
