Flying to the United States? TSA fees increase today

Fees for flying in the United States increased on Monday, with the Transport Security Agency's (TSA) airline passenger security fee doubling. In the past, the fee was collected to fund the TSA's airport security measures, but as CNN reports, new revenue will go to pay down the federal deficit.

Travellers used to pay $2.50 for each leg of their journey, with a round-trip flight with connection priced at $10. Now, passengers will pay a fee of $5.60 in each direction. A connecting flight will face fees of $11.20 per round trip.

As Newsy reports in the above video, the fee still remains a small fraction of your total ticket price, though travellers can be charged new fees more than once on the same trip if a flight has a layover that is more than four hours in length.
