Aeropostal Alas de Venezuela ceases flight operations
23 August, 2017

Aeropostal lost insurance cover for its only remaining operational MD-82, so cancels all flights with immediate effect. Flights operated at the end were CCS-PMV (Porlamar, Isla Margarita), CCS-MAR, MAR-PTY. All that remains from now on of an airline with almost 90 years of history is its technical support division. Sad. Once again: Bravo, Maduro!!

Also, Santa Barbara, or SBAirlines, ceases its CCS-PTY flights from August 29th. This flight was operated by sister airline Aserca for the last 4 weeks. SBArlines will only fly CCS-MIA when this cancellation takes effect.

Panama will require tourist visas for Venezuelan citizens wishing to visit, starting October 1st. Not sure if this has anything to do with these two cancellations behind the scenes, but I personally doubt it. It could however have to do with the rumours a few weeks back about CM quitting its Venezuelan routes. I'm sure CM would have been informed underhand by the Panamanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs about these plans. We will see if this will make those rumours come true or not. I guess most PAX on CM out of Venezuela are transfering in PTY anyway, and I guess those wouldn't need a visa.
