Jamaica Air Shuttle, a commuter carrier based in Kingston, has permanently shut down operations.

The carrier had announced in February that it was temporarily suspending its operations, citing the difficult economic climate, skyrocketing operating costs and loss of a partner and co-owner, according to the Jamaica Observer.

A call to the carrier's office in Kingston confirmed that Jamaica Air Shuttle is no longer in business.

The airline entered the market in December 2009 with three 12-seater Beech 99s, operating flights within Jamaica and regional flights to the Dominican Republic, Cuba and Haiti.
