Jamaica Air Shuttle suspends flights
Tuesday, February 19, 2013

Jamaica Air Shuttle has suspended its flight operations as of yesterday, February 18.

The company’s managing director, Christopher Read, made the announcement on its Facebook page Monday.

Jamaica Air Shuttle, which does domestic and regional flights to Cuba, Haiti and the Cayman Islands, said it has not been “spared the rigours of the prevailing toxic global economic climate that has sent the biggest and strongest of airlines scrambling for solutions to the challenges of skyrocketing operating costs and contracting margins.”

The company will try to “renegotiate a sustainable operating model that will assure the Company of the viability sufficient to continue…,” Read said.

Meanwhile, he expects that a “resolution to the immediate challenges will be worked out in the weeks ahead” with the airline to start operating shortly afterwards.
