[BVI] VG airport reopening late October
September 12, 2018

Taddy Bay airport on Virgin Gorda will reopen at the end of next month.

The BVI Airports Authority (BVIAA) made the announcement on Wednesday and gave a specific reopening date of October 29.

The airport was closed due to the malfunctioning of the only fire truck that was at the facility but Managing Director of BVIAA, Denniston Fraser said all fire truck concerns have now been addressed.

"The rapid, fire-fighting, intervention vehicle that was purchased to replace the old vehicle has already been refurbished to meet the regulatory requirements and is on its way to the British Virgin Islands," Fraser said.

All that remains now is for infrastructural works to be completed at the facility, Fraser said.

These works include constructing a station to house the new vehicle and the resurfacing of the airport’s runway.

"We will continue to keep the public apprised of the continuing developments at the Taddy Bay Airport and a further update will be given, if necessary," Fraser said while relaying public apologies for the closure of the airport.
