[JCAA] Civil Aviation Day to be observed locally with awards ceremony
6 December 2019

On Saturday, December 7 Jamaica’s aviation community will join the international community in recognising International Civil Aviation Day (ICAD) and the 75th anniversary of the world aviation governing body, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

International Civil Aviation Day is an official United Nations (UN) Day that commemorates the anniversary of the establishment of the ICAO as an international body which develops, promotes and harmonises the Standards & Recommended Practices (SARPS) for the safe, efficient and sustainable operation and development of the global air transport industry.

The Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA), Airports Authority of Jamaica (AAJ), and Aeronautical Telecommunications Limited (AEROTEL) have coordinated efforts to spread awareness about the occasion.

This year, the trio will mark their third year of joint ICAD celebration by hosting a banquet and awards ceremony recognising trailblazers in the field of aviation at the AC Marriott hotel.

Saturday’s festivities will include a keynote address by Minister of Transport and Mining Robert Montague.

Three outstanding aviators will also be presented with the Aviation Trailblazer Award for their contribution to the local and or international air transport industry and impact on air transport policy and practice.

JCAA Director-General Nari Williams Singh noted, “International Civil Aviation Day is an important event in the international aviation community because it provides an opportunity to reinforce national awareness about the important role international civil aviation plays in the social and economic development of Jamaica. The JCAA is proud to be part of the team managing the ICAD activities in Jamaica and even happier to recognise those who have made a meaningful impact on our industry”.
