The Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) has confirmed that it will be participating in investigations, surrounding the Fly Jamaica plane that crash landed in Guyana, this morning (Nov 9).

Six passengers aboard Fly Jamaica flight OJ-256 suffered non-life threatening injuries, after the Canada-bound plane crashed shortly after take-off in Guyana’s capital.

The Boeing 757, carrying 126 people, had taken off 20 minutes before from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, in Georgetown, heading for Toronto, but had to return after experiencing hydraulic problems.

Director General of the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority, Nari Williams Singh, noted that the air operating certificate for the Fly Jamaica plane was issued by the authority, and as such, the authority will be included in the investigations.

In a press release this morning, Fly Jamaica Airways said the plane developed a technical problem and suffered an accident on landing.

It said all 118 passengers and 8 crew members were safe.

In the meantime, one passenger on the flight detailed his experience to the Guyana news source.
