[JCAA] Henry to get flight school crash report by month end
Friday | January 12, 2018

The Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) says it expects to present its report on the 2016 plane crash which killed an instructor and two student pilots in Kingston to transport minister Mike Henry by the end of this month.

Thirty-one-year-old flight instructor, Jonathan Worton, of Boonhall Road, Stony Hill, St Andrew; 19-year-old DanShuvar Gilmore of Ocean Hill, St Ann; and 18-year-old St Mary resident, Romone Forbes died as a result of the accident.

It’s reported that about 1:35 on the afternoon of November 10, 2016, the three were aboard a small fixed wing aircraft when it developed mechanical difficulties and crashed in a house in Greenwich Town.

Director General of the JCAA, Nari Williams-Singh says investigations into the cause of the crash are in the final stages. Shortly after the crash, Henry had said he was not ruling out an audit of the operations at the Caribbean Aviation Training Centre, which owned the aircraft. This followed allegations of safety issues at the school by a former student. However, Williams-Singh would not give details this morning about what that audit found.

Meanwhile, the mother of one of the victims of the plane crash is hoping the report from the JCAA will bring the grieving families closure. More than a year after the crash, Jacqueline Forbes, the mother of Romone Forbes, says she is frustrated at the time it is taking for the investigation to be completed. She says it’s difficult to move on without information on what happened.
