Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority getting ready to move into renovated Air Traffic Centre
Fri December 8, 2017

The Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) is finalising preparations to move into its Kingston Air Traffic Centre within weeks. Director-General of the JCAA Nari Williams-Singh confirmed on Thursday evening that the authority has also made the transition to the new air traffic management system.

The JCAA has been undergoing changes, updating its systems to reflect more modern air traffic regulation realities. During the transitioning process in September the Authority's air traffic management systems were struck by lightning. The JCAA has since been operating from a temporary location at its headquarters on Winchester Road in St. Andrew.

“We have now fully transitioned to that system and we are renovating the Kingston Air Traffic Centre which we’ll be moving into sometime in January 2018, but we’re operating from a temporary location at our headquarters… as well, so we are fully up to speed with our new equipment and using the new equipment,” William-Singh explained on RJR’s Beyond the Headlines.

He revealed as well that a new air traffic control tower at Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay will be brought into operation shortly, following a similar development at Kingston's Norman Manley International last year.
