Full restoration of air traffic control services remains elusive
19 September 2017

Despite assurances last Thursday from Transport and Mining Minister, Mike Henry, that full restoration of air traffic control services island-wide would be in place within 48 hours, that goal has reportedly not been met.

This is reportedly because of another setback to the full restoration of the air traffic control services, which has left the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) still in a bind.

However, the issues, which reportedly relate to the continued training of air traffic controllers in the use of the new air navigational system that is being put in place, are expected to be resolved on Tuesday.

The JCAA is expected to issue a statement on the latest developments.

There have been only partial air traffic control services across the country since September 8, when lightning hit and damaged both the main and back-up radar and communication equipment at the JCAA’s Winchester Road headquarters in St Andrew.

Since Thursday, Minister Henry has been on official business overseas, which includes travel to the Far East.
