Jamaica to face no sanction for shutting down airspace, says JCAA
Wed September 13, 2017

The Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) has said there will be no sanction from the International Civil Aviation Organization regarding the decision to shutdown the country's airspace on Friday.

"Everything that has been done at the JCAA since Friday has been coordinated with the International Civil Aviation Organization and everything has been done within the standards of the aviation industry," said Leroy Lindsay, Senior Management Consultant at the Transport Ministry. He responded to the concerns at Wednesday morning's Jamaica House media briefing.

Jamaica's airspace was shutdown on Friday after a lightning strike caused disruptions to the JCAA's radar and communication systems. The country is now operating on limited airspace services as the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority works to fully restore its systems.
