Two short-listed for ECCAA job
Tuesday, February 15th, 2011.

Two men have been shortlisted for the position of director general of the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority – the ECCAA, a year after it was left vacant by tragedy.

ECCAA Chairman, Cordell Josiah told The Daily OBSERVER the two applicants “were the ones with the most experience, to fill the position. I am not prepared to say who they are at this time

The predecessor, Rosemond James along with his Director of Flight Safety Gregory McAlpin, perished in January 2010, in the earthquake that devastated Haiti, killing more than 200,000 people and causing millions of dollars in damage.

Josiah said he was pleased with the level of interest, noting that applications were received from several Caribbean and extra-regional countries but were eventually whittled down to six from Trinidad & Tobago, St Kitts & Nevis, Barbados, Canada and Antigua & Barbuda where the Authority is headquartered.

He explained, “The board met last week and the directors looked at the applications and we have forwarded the two names back to the (legal) secretary for him to do due diligence. When that is completed the recommendation will be made and then a decision will be made by the Council of Ministers for Aviation.”

Donald McPhail has been acting director general since last February in what should have been a six-month stint.
