ECCAA seeks to fill top two spots
Posted on 10 August 2010.

The Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA) will soon begin the quest to fill the two top positions left vacant this year by tragedy.

Director General Rosemond James and Director of Flight Safety Gregory McAlpin were among the more than 200,000 who perished in the massive earthquake that devastated Haiti in January.

They were in Haiti for the annual meeting of the Caribbean Aviation Safety and Security Oversight and were staying at the Hotel Montana, a popular 98-year-old luxury property that crumbled into a pile of debris, burying more than 200 people.

Back in February, the ECCAA Board of board of directors took the decision to appoint an interim team to move the organisation forward since the substantive holder had been unaccounted for since the magnitude 7.0 quake.

The name of Director of Air Navigation Donald McPhail was forwarded to the heads of government and Civil Aviation ministers in the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States and he became acting Director General in February.

His appointment was for a six-month period, which means his stint is ending.

Sources have told The Daily OBSERVER that the formal search for a new head and also Director of Flight Safety will begin shortly.
