Dominica’s Civil Aviation Minister Ian Douglas said plans are afoot for the establishment of OECS uniform civil aviation regulations.

Douglas who is also Dominica’s tourism Minister returned stateside recently, following an Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority meeting in St. Lucia.

He told Dominica News Online that the regulation is aimed at determining how airline traffic is administered in the sub-grouping.

“As we continue to grapple with the issue of air access and getting into the destination, persons may want to come up with their own ideas on how to do so. These issues must be regulated, not only by legislation but it must be monitored as well. The Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation must serve as a guide because they are the ones responsible for monitoring the way that airline traffic is administered throughout the region. We are just updating our legislative framework for the conduct of airline traffic throughout the region,” he said.

According to Douglas, Dominica on the other hand has been in an advanced stage in drafting its legislation, but it should be done as a region.

“We do not want Dominica to go ahead with one piece of civil aviation regulation and then St. Lucia does another thing. Dominica is at an advanced stage and we are working with the other islands so that we can pass a uniformed piece of legislation in the region," Douglas said.

New rules, why now what have we been using for the past decades? on July 27, 2009 03:56:43 PM
Mr Douglas what are you talking about? The Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority based in Antiqua already makes rules for airlines and safety regulations for ALL OECS memberstates. What are you trying to change? Dominica just needs AIRLINE COMPETITION!!!! How many times do we have to tell you the same thing over and over again. You as the Minister of Tourism have failed to bring an alternative to LIAT. Tell LIAT to bring their prices down for godsakes.

Is there something to regulate? Make more regulation, and you got no flights at all.

How many ministries does Ian have? Someone please tell me. And also please tell me when anything that Ian said ever made any sense!!

Ian,stay advanced on paper while the other caribbean islands make actual progess. Good for you. Good for Dominica. That is all the island needs, talk, talk, talk with NO action.

Visit any of the other islands and see how they are progressing and stop making a FOOL out of yourself!!

your point plz on July 27, 2009 10:43:29 AM
