Travelers from the West headed to Jamaica will catch a big break this winter, thanks to US Airways’ new seasonal service from Phoenix to Montego Bay.

The flight, which runs from Dec. 18 through April 12, operates Fridays through Mondays from Phoenix, departing at 10 a.m. and arriving in Jamaica at 4:53 p.m.

From Jamaica, the flight operates Thursdays through Sundays, departing at 12:25 p.m. and arriving at 4:09 p.m. arrival in Phoenix.

Montego Bay is the first nonstop Caribbean destination from US Airways’ Phoenix hub. The carrier currently serves Montego Bay from Boston, Charlotte and Philadelphia.

The new flight "is great news for customers in the western U.S. who now have their first one-stop connecting option to Jamaica west of Texas," according to Andrew Nocella, US Airways’ senior vice president of marketing and planning.

Jamaica Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett, said, "The launch of the service from Phoenix allows us to welcome many more visitors from major cities in the western U.S. Tapping directly into these markets is part of our strategy to boost tourism arrivals, and this nonstop service is vital to achieving that objective."

US Airways said it will begin nonstop flights between Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and Montego Bay, Jamaica on Dec. 17. It will be the first nonstop flights operated by the Tempe-based carrier from Phoenix to a Caribbean destination.

The seasonal service, which will operate four days weekly and run though April 12, will use Airbus 319 jet aircraft.

Through connecting flights at Sky Harbor, US Airways will give 28 western cities one-stop, same day service to Montego Bay, said Senior Vice President Andrew Nocella.
