Get Unlimited Digital Access$0.99for first 4 weeksSouthwest Airlines expects to begin daily nonstop flights in June to several Caribbean destinations from a new concourse at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, the carrier said Thursday.

The Dallas-based carrier filed an application with the federal government for service to Grand Cayman from Fort Lauderdale beginning June 4. The government must approve Southwest's proposal.

On the same date, the carrier expects to kick off daily service from Fort Lauderdale to Montego Bay, Jamaica; Belize; Nassau, Bahamas; and Cancun.

Southwest also plans to begin flying out of Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport on June 4, pending federal approval. Daily flights out of Cincinnati will travel to Chicago Midway International Airport and Baltimore/Washington International Airport.

In addition, Southwest is adding nonstop service between Cleveland and Atlanta, and a second daily flight between Cleveland and St. Louis. Southwest also announced that flights to Akron-Canton and Dayton, Ohio, will end June 3.

In Florida, Southwest plans to add daily service between Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, Washington, D.C. (Dulles), and Philadelphia. The carrier also is adding two daily flights between Tampa and New York (LaGuardia), and weekend nonstop service between Pensacola and Denver.

Also on June 4, Southwest will add nonstop service between Portland, Ore., and San Francisco; San Jose and Reno; San Diego and Boise; San Diego and Salt Lake City; New York (via Newark) and Indianapolis; and Nashville and Minneapolis.
