Trinidad and Tobago's ANR Robinson International Airport Re-opens after minor incident
Saturday, August 13, 2011

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad

Trinidad and Tobago's ANR Robinson International Airport was re-opened for service today Friday, August 12th at 6:00 a.m.. The travelling public are advised to contact their relevant airlines for flight schedules.

On Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 7:25 p.m. a Boeing 747-400 Virgin Atlantic (VA) aircraft, flight #VS 52, about to depart for London from the ANR Robinson International Airport, entered a taxiway that was closed for construction activity. This resulted in the aircraft becoming stuck in a section of the taxiway that was not completely refurbished.

Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (AATT) immediately activated its emergency plan. The Fire Service responded and all relevant stakeholders were alerted.

There were 452 passengers on board and 16 crew members. There are no reported injuries.

This area of the runway had been closed to facilitate paving and rehabilitation works. The closed taxiway is appropriately marked. A team from the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority is conducting investigations to determine the cause of the incident.
