Incident: Condor B763 near St. Lucia on Apr 29th 2011, first officer incapacitated

Tuesday, Jun 21st 2011

A Condor Boeing 767-300, registration D-ABUA performing flight DE-110 from Frankfurt/Main (Germany) to Bridgetown (Barbados), was enroute near Saint Lucia when the first officer was no longer to perform his duties. The captain decided to divert to Saint Lucia's Hewanorra Airport for a safe landing.

Germany's BFU reported that the first officer was incapacited due to illness. The captain performed the landing with the assistance of a retired captain who was travelling as passenger on board of the aircraft.

Even direct on a (shortest distance) Great Circle Route and approaching from a more northerly direction (about 260 degrees), Hewanorra is several miles PAST Barbados. Were they so busy dealing with the medical situation that they went past the destination? Strange... or maybe they decided that Barbados does not have adequate medical facilities.
