A Westjet Boeing 737-700, registration C-GCWJ performing flight WS-2773 from Port of Spain (Trinidad and Tobago) to Toronto,ON (Canada) with 101 people on board, had reached cruise level 300 when the crew received a left hand engine (CFM56) oil filter bypass indication, worked the relevant checklists and shut the engine down. The aircraft returned to Port of Spain for a safe landing.

The Canadian TSB reported maintenance found the line 3 bearing in the angle gear box failed clogging the engine oil filter. The gearbox and oil filter were replaced, a service difficulty report was filed.
