Continental fined $100,000 for 'incomplete' disability complaints

US Dept. of Transportation this week fined Continental Airlines $100,000 in civil penalties for "filing incomplete reports with the department tabulating complaints that passengers with disabilities registered with the carrier," it said in a statement. DOT requires airlines to categorize disability-related complaints by the type of disability and nature of the complaint, and if a complaint covers more than one issue then each issue must be counted as a separate complaint. During an onsite inspection at CO's Houston headquarters, DOT's Aviation Enforcement Office discovered that the carrier was recording only the most significant issue in each disability complaint even though many of them involved more than one disability-related issue.
