Delta reveals details of international premium economy cabin

Delta announced details of its planned international premium economy cabins Thursday, the same day that competitor American launched the first international premium service of any U.S. carrier.

Delta Premium, as the new cabin is to be called, will debut on select international flights in late 2017. In May, when Delta first announced the new cabin class, the carrier said it would debut in mid 2017.

Delta will introduce the Delta Premium product when it takes delivery of Airbus A350 aircraft next year and will begin rolling the service out on its Boeing 777 fleet in 2018. Delta’s receipt of the A350s will also mark the launch of the all-suite Delta One business class cabin, the carrier has previously said.

Delta Premium will feature 38 inches of space, or pitch, between seat rows, up from the 31 to 32 inches that carrier offers in the economy cabin of its 777s, for example. Seat width will be 19 inches, or 1Ž2 inch more then Delta’s standard 777 economy seats. Seats will have up to seven inches of recline and will offer adjustable leg rests and head rests.

Each Delta Premium seatback will be equipped with a 13.3-inch television along with power ports.

On the service end, Delta Premium customers will receive priority check-in, pre-departure beverage service and, “fresh, seasonal menu selections,” Delta said.

They’ll also get a pillow and blanket as well as an amenity kit.

American’s Premium Economy is now available on flights between Dallas/Fort Worth and Sao Paolo and it will debut Friday on the carrier’s Dallas-Madrid route.
