As part of Barbados' new tourism strategy and growth, the Caribbean island's new tourism organization -- Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. -- has announced new twice weekly nonstop service with Delta Air Lines. The new flights, which will commence on Dec. 4, will operate from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and from Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport to Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI) in Bridgetown, Barbados.

Flights will operate on Thursdays and Saturdays and will take place onboard Boeing 737 aircraft that can seat up to 160.

"Bringing 160 seats on each airplane into Barbados starting Dec. 4 is very exciting for us," said Richard Pile, district sales manager for Delta Air Lines.

"We now have an exciting opportunity to grow the U.S. market and bring it back to the halcyon days before, where we will be able to have well over 150,000 persons coming into Barbados as visitors," added Adrian Elcock, chairman of the board of directors at Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc.

In December 2013, JetBlue Airways expanded its service to Barbados, offering daily Airbus A321 service from New York's JFK to BGI.
