Delta Atlanta-Cayman service to begin in Q1 2022
November 19, 2021

Delta Airlines has postponed its start date of its service between the Cayman Islands and Atlanta. Atlanta service will now begin on March 12, 2022.

The carrier recently announced that it would be recovering its Caribbean routes to about 85 per cent of its pre-pandemic levels over winter, featuring more than 20 daily flights to 18 different destinations in the Latin America and Caribbean region.

Included are daily non stop flights from JFK Airport in New York to St Thomas, US Virgin Islands and St Maarten, beginning December 18.

Delta says its bookings from outside the United States jumped by more than 450 per cent as America’s borders opened to vaccinated passengers from 33 countries.

The airline recently reported its financial results for the third quarter of 2021, revealing a $1.2 billion profit, including government support. However, even more exciting, excluding government support the airline turned a profit of $216 million – its first profit excluding government support since the crisis began in early 2020.

Latin America and the Caribbean lead the way with a whopping 84 per cent restoration in passenger revenues of the international recovery. Transatlantic revenues were only 35 per cent restored, but up 20 points quarter-over-quarter as more borders opened up, Delta launched new routes, and travelers booked flights.
