Hearing Windows beep when I turn a switch on or off

Unread post by michaelawai » Sun Jan 03, 2010

Hey help please!

Recently when turning a switch on or off on all of my panels, I am hearing the Windows Beep. It is becoming really annoying. Anyone has any idea why?

That is interesting. Have you checked to sound settings of the simulator to ensure that the proper sound card/s have been selected, also are you hearing all other sounds that should be heard while the sim is running. Another question....are you running any third party software along with FS which may also require a sound source which may not be properly configured.

Have you installed anything lately which may have altered the state of your flight simulator settings. Try to think back to when you noticed the beeping sound, had you made any changes (installed or deleted software).

What type of sound card are you using, maybe you can try re-installing the drivers for the card.

Just some ideas that came to mind. Let me know how you make out.

Good to know that you found the culprit. Out of curiosity which program was it?

Here is a suggestion If you have an old PC laying around you can set it up to run your utilities such as:
Active Sky weather generator
Real Environment Xtreme
FlightSim Commander - Awesome program
FS FlightKeeper
Project Magenta panels - Awesome modules - damn expensive though - but worth it (great for cockpit building)
Logbooks
Approach plates
Instructor station - very valuable tool
and the list goes on......

These are controlled by the .dll program created by Pete Dowson "WideFS".

The good thing is that there is not FPS impact of the main flight sim PC and it frees up more of the resources that these program use in the background which can at times can create bottlenecking.

All that is necessary is a little networking 101 so that you have both machines communicating with each other
