AA to launch Charlotte flight to Barbados come December
June 21, 2018

Barbados has added yet another route to its list of flights out of the United States as it continues to explore every avenue to increase visitor arrivals.

American Airlines today announced the addition of daily non-stop service from Charlotte, North Carolina to Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI) beginning December 19, 2018.

This announcement comes just weeks after the carrier unveiled its third daily flight from Miami to Barbados, which is also set to launch December 19.

Tickets for the new route went on sale on Sunday, June 17.

Newly appointed Minister of Tourism and International Transport Kerrie Symmonds said with the additional route, he anticipated another record year for tourist arrivals.

Barbados last year welcomed a 30-year high of 188,970 visitors from the United States, with arrivals out of that market rising year on year, according to a release from the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc (BTMI), which said high-level airline partnerships had been its cornerstone effort and this strategy has led to increased airlift and the introduction of new gateways including Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Boston, Massachusetts, and Newark, New Jersey.

“Our airline partners have been instrumental in the growth of visitation from the United States. This new service signals tremendous confidence in Barbados and constitutes a 70 per cent increase in seat capacity into and out of the island,” Symmonds said.

“Increased service to these important cities will help to ensure another year of record passenger arrivals to our destination,” he added.

Meantime, American’s Managing Director for the Caribbean Alfredo Gonzalez described Barbados as a destination in high demand.

“One month after announcing additional service to Barbados from our Miami hub, we’re thrilled to continue growing our presence in the island with new daily service from our Charlotte hub, both operating during the winter. As the demand continues to grow over the years, today we’re proud to serve as the leading US airline in the island with up to 28 weekly flights,” said Gonzalez.

The natural question would be, “How much deeper in debt did the previous government put Barbados in order to have the mercenary American Airlines add so many flights?”

Like the Nazis in World War 2, that awful administration of the DLP exercised a “scorched earth” policy as they were driven out of office, doing their level best to leave the BLP – and all Barbadians, for dozens of generations to come – deep in debt and facing austerity for decades, if not devaluation of the currency.

American Airlines – like all commercial enterprises – do nothing for free, and is the very airline which first introduced a seat subsidy policy to the Caribbean, in Grenada (back then it was done in secret). Perhaps this arrangement is yet another one which should be reviewed by the new government – whether to be tossed out or not.
