Regional Jet Express will launch service to six Caribbean islands on Oct. 18.

The carrier’s 32-passenger Fairchild Dornier 328 jets will serve Dominica, Puerto Rico (San Juan), the Dominican Republic (Santo Domingo), St. Croix, St. Thomas and the British Virgin Islands (Tortola).

The Wyoming-based company has a satellite office on St. Croix.

Regional Jet Express said it plans to add Cuba and Haiti to its route network soon, using non-U.S. registered aircraft.

Dominica said the new service would provide much-needed airlift and access.

"Air access is one of the biggest problems we have in the tourism sector, so we are happy to welcome this new service. Lack of lift is the biggest factor affecting the growth of tourism and our economy," said Simon Walsh, president of the Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association.

The carrier is accepting reservations now.
