Liat has been left out of the loop on a deadline that concerns it
May 22, 2017

The union representing Liat’s workers has left the company out of the loop about a recently-imposed deadline. The Leeward Islands Airline Pilots Association has told the company it has until June 1st to give effect to a wage agreement that was reached in January.

Liat’s acting CEO Julie Reifer-Jones has said in the brief interview that the management has not received formal notification. She has said also that she is aware of the ultimatum…having read it in the Daily Observer like everyone else.

Reifer-Jones declined further comment when asked why the wage agreement that has triggered the union’s threat is not in place. But she has promised that Liat will put out a press release on the matter.

LIALPA says it had accepted the deal on the premise that the pilots would give a one-off concession to ensure the survival of the company. The union warns that it will have to act to protect the interest and rights of members. The Chairman Captain Carl Burke would only tell Observer Media that LIALPA’s attorney, Justin Simon Q.C will formally notify Liat.
