LIAT Pilots Association head axed
05 December, 2011

LIAT has fired the chairman of the Leeward Islands Air Transport Pilots’ Association, Captain Michael Blackburn.

In a very terse official statement today, the airline said: “The management of LIAT (1974) Ltd wishes to confirm the termination of the company’s employment relationship with Captain Michael Blackburn with effect from Monday, December 5, 2011.”

LIAT’s Corporate Communications Manager, Desmond Brown, said in the release that no further pubic statements would be issued at this time.

When contacted, Blackman admitted to Barbados TODAY he did receive a letter of dismissal from the company.

Asked what reasons were given, he said: “A number of them were given, but I don’t want to go into any details at this time. I don’t know all the legal ramifications so I am referring the matter to my lawyers. But all I can say is that the reasons don’t seem lawful.”
